Lower Secondary Computing

Lower Secondary Computing

In a world increasingly dominated by computers, our Lower Secondary Computing course equips students with the necessary skills to successfully use computers and to prepare them for the world of work.

The course is wide-ranging in content and includes writing computer programmes, analysing data through spreadsheets and building a basic website. Computational thinking skills and problem solving through computers are also key elements of this course.

How our courses work

Benefits

Almost all parts of our lives are affected by computer programmes. Studying Lower Secondary Computing means students can begin to:

  • Learn the advanced skills needed to make computers work for them
  • Learn to think logically to identify and solve complex computing issues
  • Understand how to manage data, networks and digital communication
  • Develop independent learning skills

Course advice

Our Lower Secondary Computing course assumes that students have completed a Primary level Maths course to a good standard.

We would recommend that students study Part 1 followed by Part 2 and then Part 3, as the skills learnt will allow students to study the course successfully.

The course covers both the English National Curriculum for Key Stage 3 in Computing and the Cambridge Lower Secondary Computing Curriculum Framework.

Students will require up to 3 hours per week of study time to complete each part of Lower Secondary Computing plus additional time for completing assignments.
