The Cambridge A level English Language course helps develop a critical understanding of a variety of both written and spoken texts.

Students will explore grammar, structure and style as the building blocks of language while using analytical skills to discuss writing for effect and purpose and for different audiences.

Syllabus and exams

This course will prepare students for the Cambridge A level English Language syllabus 9093.

Exams take place in March (India & Romania only), June and November.

Course advice

In order to study this Cambridge A level English Language course, we would recommend that students have achieved at least the following grades at IGCSE (or equivalent level):

  • First Language English (A or 7), Maths (C or 4).
  • The recommended IELTS equivalent is IELTS 8.0/8.5.

Students considering taking this subject should be aware of the high level of written English expected by the examiners. Our AS course will take approximately 250 hours of study. Our full A level course will take appropriately 500 hours of study. Both AS and A level courses will require extra time for preparation of the assignments and revision at the end of the course.
