Cambridge A level Computer Science

The Cambridge A level Computer Science course will teach students to think creatively, apply practical programming solutions and demonstrate that they are effective users of technology.

The course covers a variety of topics including numbers, quantities, internal coding and programming. It also ensures students will be able to identify and question the ethical issues which may arise from emerging technologies.

How our courses work

Syllabus and exams

The course prepares students for the Cambridge A level Computer Science syllabus 9618. The full A level qualification comprises exams at AS and at A level, which may be taken together or separately.

Please note that the A Level Paper 4 is a practical paper.

Exams take place in June and November.

Course advice

For students to student Cambridge A level Computer Science, we strongly recommend that:

  • Students have studied Computer Science at IGCSE/GCSE Level and achieved a Grade C or 5.
  • If students have not studied Computer Science at IGCSE, it is desirable that they have previous experience of programming.
  • They also need First Language English (C or 4) and Maths (B or 6).
  • The recommended IELTS equivalent is IELTS 6.0/6.5.

Our AS course will take approximately 250 hours of study. Our full A level course will take appropriately 500 hours of study. Both AS and A level courses will require extra time for preparation of the assignments and revision at the end of the course.
